How Pascal Klinkenberg steered his career towards Madrid

At TMC, we not only say that you are in control of your own career, but we also live up to our promise! Take Pascal Klinkenberg. Already during his job interview in 2018, he made it clear that working abroad was his dream. Preferably in Madrid. After having worked at TMC in Eindhoven for about 4 years, his dream came true. In 2022, Pascal got on a plane to take up a position as International Business Controller in his favorite city. Pascal recently returned to Eindhoven, where he looks back on his Spanish adventure.

International ambition

"Since May 2018, I have worked at TMC's finance department. As International Business Controller I support our foreign offices by providing them with targeted analyses and financial data and business information reports. I advise the management and the board. In the past two years, I was responsible for our offices in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France. In addition I was involved in opening new offices in Germany and Tunisia. Recently, Sweden, Canada, America, Romania, Luxembourg and Dubai were added to the roster. And we are set to open new offices in other countries! It is no coincidence that I work at a company that has international ambitions. In fact, that was one of the main reasons why I decided on a career at TMC."

Back to Madrid

"I started my career as a trainee at IBM in Madrid. During my job interview at TMC I made no secret of the fact that I was eager to work abroad again. I like a challenge, I want to see the world, and I thought it would be fun to travel for work. When I joined TMC, it had only recently set out on its international expansion. The company was rapidly growing. When the international offices started to gain in importance, it only stood to reason that I would reinforce the Southern Europe region. In January 2022, I left for Spain, together with my girlfriend."

Impact on your career

"I have become fluent in Spanish and my colleagues there have become my friends. What I'm proud of? I really made an impact in Madrid: in the two years I worked there our office changed from a scale-up to a successful, mature business, doubling both its sales and its number of staff. I made a lot of progress at TMC on a personal level as well and managed to realize exactly what I had envisioned. I should add that I always received all the help I needed. For example, I used the training budget offered by TMC to complete a master's in International Business. I am involved in a constant process, in which I ask myself, in consultation with my employer: what are my goals and how do we go about to ensure that I achieve them? As an employeneur, you really have a say in the direction your career will take, provided you take the initiative yourself. In other words, TMC provides the means and it is up to you to use them to your best advantage. What I also appreciate is that TMC has a flat management structure. This makes it easy to approach colleagues in higher positions. All this provides young people with a solid base to grow."

Traveling a lot

And so Pascal single-handedly steered his career towards Madrid. "I recently returned to the Netherlands," he says. "Our Eindhoven office is now my basic work spot, but I travel a lot to our offices abroad. I look forward to contributing to our expansion to 10,000 employeneurs worldwide!"
