Sustainability through renewable energy

Almost 4 years ago, Jan Gilot joined the TMC Chemical business cell. "I work as a Senior Research Scientist at Holst Centre in Eindhoven," Jan says. "On top of that, I work as a Renewables Development Engineer at the TMC office. Holst Centre is an independent open-innovation R&D centre, which is part of TNO. Our team develops technologies for the large area processing of organic solar cells. During the past 2,5 years I have been the work package leader for the European project X10D and the leader for applications and demonstrators within Solliance. I am also the coordinator of the EU project MUJULIMA, set up for high efficiency organic solar cells with long-lasting stability. I participate in challenging projects, searching for innovative solutions in sustainability by the application of solar cells".

Next to his work at Holst Centre, Jan is responsible for disseminating TMC as multidisciplinary project partner on the market of renewable energy. Jan: "The TMC Renewable team, in cooperation with external speakers, organize lectures on renewable energy and adaptations to the electricity grid. Next to that, via network talks, company visits, conferences and presentations, we attempt to establish collaborations with energy consultants and interest groups as well as with partners in subsidy projects to put sustainability through renewable energy high on the agenda. One of the projects TMC has worked on is the Twan Heetkamp refrigerated trailer. In a multi-partner project, TMC has combined solar and braking energy for the power supply to make trailers more sustainable. Due to the partial collapse of the solar manufacturing market, we are now working on renewable energy solutions from a wider perspective and we are searching for the best way to generate, store and distribute energy".

"I want to contribute to the search for alternative energy sources. I believe our generation is the first one that is making a big step forward to sustainability, so the next generation can elaborate on this process. As my personal goal, with this theme of sustainability through renewable energy I would like to grow towards the position of manager or CTO in the future. I am very grateful to TMC for offering me the opportunity to develop my talents and skills in different projects. TMC definitely helps you to bring out your best".
