TMC-Sponsored Niels Langeveld is the Clio Cup Benelux Champion 2015
Last weekend, Niels Langeveld won the Renault Clio Cup Championship 2015 in the Benelux racing series. In his TMC-sponsored car he won both races at Zolder in Belgium, bringing his total in the Championship to 259 points, 95 points more than Melvin de Groot, who is second. With only one race weekend left to go on the TT circuit in Assen, Niels Langeveld can already call himself the Clio Cup Benelux Champion of 2015. We talked to Niels, and with our own Thijs Manders, about the Championship, TMC’s sponsorship, and the future.
Champion of 2015
Niels: “I’m very proud of what we have accomplished this season. The pace was excellent right from the first weekend, during the Easter races at Zandvoort. We immediately won that first race and came in third in the second race. And every weekend after that we scored the most points. We were the best, so that’s really fantastic. For me personally, the races at Spa-Francorchamps were the highlight of the season. At Spa, the Benelux field was combined with the French cars, so over 40 cars were on the starting grid. To win both races there and go through Eau-Rouge as the leader on both accounts was a great experience.”
Thijs Manders, founder and CEO of TMC can only agree with Niels:
“Niels and the whole Certainty Racing Team did an excellent job. They were the best all season. We were there every weekend and at every race with a lot of people from TMC to cheer Niels on.”
The perfect sport for TMC
Thijs: “Racing is the perfect sport for TMC to sponsor. It’s all about the technical challenge, achieving a set goal and having an eye for spotting talent. A lot of TMC Employeneurs are fans of racing, so we were looking for a way to be active in racing within an acceptable budget. The Certainty Racing Team and the Clio Cup Benelux were just what we were looking for. It’s nice to see the team and the car with the TMC logo get so much attention in the media. And Niels also did a great job from a marketing point of view. He used social media very well, and with some great initiatives – such as a pool where TMC Employeneurs could predict his races, he made the sponsorship a popular topic of discussion within TMC itself.
Niels: “Yes, this year, I knew we had a good car, so I wanted to do a lot for my sponsors and make sure that the marketing was perfect. I am very grateful to TMC for their support during my two years in the Certainty Racing Team.”
For the next season, Niels and the Certainty Racing Team are parting ways. Niels: “Unfortunately I am leaving the team. I have international ambitions. I would very much like to race in a European competition. We don’t yet know which one, but I would like to prove myself on that level. So now I’m going to work very hard to make that happen. I had a terrific time at Certainty, and with TMC, and I’m very glad that we could end our time together with this success in the Championship.”
Thijs: “It’s only natural that Niels has international aspirations. He has the talent. At Spa, where he finished over 20 seconds before the rest of the field, you could already see that he was outgrowing the Clio Cup Benelux. We wish him all the best of course, and we will keep following his efforts in Europe. We are already looking for a new driver for next season, and it looks like we have found another great talent in Joel Affolter, a former European Carting Champion. So even though this season isn’t even finished yet, we are already looking forward and are very excited about the next one.”
