Offshore wind power: technological developments and outstanding challenges

During an evening program current developments as well as outstanding technological challenges in the area of offshore wind power will be discussed. The program will be chaired by Harald van de Mijle Meijer (TNO wind energy), and there will be contributions by Professor Gijs van Kuik (TU Delft) and Dr. Ernst van Zuijlen (TKI wind-op-zee).

Harald van der Mijle Meijer did a Masters degree in Materials Science before working for the Royal Netherlands Navy on materials and corrosion research for maritime and offshore applications. Since 2002 he has been working as Business Developer Offshore Wind at TNO and works in this capacity with all major parties active in this sector.

Prof. Gijs van Kuik has a background in wind turbine aerodynamics (MSc and PhD) and technology & design. He is a very active and prominent member of the worldwide wind energy community, and has been the initiator and scientific director of the Dutch Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation on Offshore Wind Energy. Currently he is scientific director of DUWIND, the wind energy research institute of TU-Delft.

Dr. Ernst van Zuijlen has a background in Physics and worked on wind energy at Ecofys, Econcern, Evelop, Eneco and Flow. He was responsible for building up a portfolio of over 5000MW of offshore wind projects. Since over 2 years he is director of the Dutch Top Consortium for Knowledge and Innovation on Offshore Wind Energy.
