Sparkling Christmas light show at TMC building in Eindhoven

During the entire month of December, everyone can admire a sparkling light show on the TMC building in Eindhoven. TMC Software Employeneur Erik Rakhorst has provided the light show on the building. ‘It all started in the front yard of my house five years ago,’ Erik says. ‘As a software engineer, out of interest I wanted to get started with hardware. This project proved to be a great success.’

With the help of his wife and brother-in-law, the Christmas light show in the front garden has become more spectacular every year. Erik: ‘My wife programs the show to the beat of the music, while my brother-in-law mixes the Christmas songs and I take care of the technique. The controllers that control the lights, I have developed myself.’ The show did not remain unnoticed in the Eindhoven region. In 2017, the light show at the Rode Kruislaan in Eindhoven was visited by about 1,000 spectators.

This year Erik has doubled the number of lights in his front yard from 10,000 to 20,000, which is expensive. ‘TMC heard about my plans and offered to support me financially. In return, I also made a plan for the TMC building. After approval of my ideas, I asked TMC colleagues to help me execute this plan. Immediately, I received a number of enthusiastic reactions and formed a project team.

The team worked hard to go live on time. The upper floor is now beautifully illuminated and visible from the ringroad N2. ‘Together with Roger Hacking, Patti Drenthen, Frank Fleuren, Remco van Herk, Marieke Manders, Hans Schuren and Teun van Hoesel we worked on the show in the evenings. I explained to everyone what the intention was and together we succeeded. We had a lot of fun while working on this project’, Erik said. And according to Roger 5000 leds have been used at TMC. The TMC lightshow is to be seen daily between 17.00 – 24.00.

As for the lightshow at his house: ‘I noticed that the light show in the street has also provided me a great amount of nice contacts. I could not have done this project without the support of my neighbours. Together we have ensured that four houses are decorated alongside each other with lights that can take on all the colours of the rainbow and move to the beat of the music. I greatly appreciate their help.’

Erik has registered the Christmas light show for the project ‘x-Lights Around the World’. ‘This year, we have an extra bonus after the light show. We hope that our show will be included in a video clip. The video clip, to the rhythm of special music, shows a compilation of the best entries of Christmas light shows from around the world. It would be great if we were selected!’

The light show at the Rode Kruislaan can be admired daily from 6 December to 26 December at 5 pm, 6 pm and 7 pm. The show lasts about 15 minutes. The address is: Rode Kruislaan 91-93-95 and 97, Woensel, Eindhoven. The 7 pm show has an extra bonus as part of the project ‘x-Lights Around the World’. Between Christmas and New Year (from December 27 to December 31) there is a new show to admire with a New Year’s touch.
